Around the Stanley Reservoir a good deal of ground that looks like dry land for most of the year is within the water spread, or held by the Public Works Department, or classified as water body. A house on it is at risk from the next full reservoir and from an eviction order. We check the survey number and classification in the records before any drawing is issued, and we tell you plainly if a plot cannot be built on.

Close to the Kaveri the ground is alluvial and the water table is high, which changes the depth of the footing, whether a deep sump makes sense and how the plinth is waterproofed. A kilometre inland the ground is the hard, rocky Mettur country. The two need different foundations, so we open trial pits before quoting rather than guessing from the address.
